The Battle Of Lithgow

Jun 17, 2009

The centrepiece of Ironfest was a Napoleonic Battle re-enactment. My impression from this re-enactment was that if you were to go back in time and witness a real battle from the early 19th century you would see a lot of standing around as the infantry reloaded their muskets for the next volley.

So I decided to turn the battle into an all-guns-blazing shootout.

Ironfest Jousting 2009

May 25, 2009

The Dark Ages pay a visit to Lithgow - Harlands is there. Lithgow's annual Ironfest event provided an exciting opportunity to train a video camera upon some violence. Held over the weekend of April 25/26, Ironfest's star attractions were a medieval jousting tournament and a re-enactment of a Napoleonic battle.

The jousting tournament was contested over three rounds which provided the chance to shoot from three different positions and try to make it all work together. The riders all looked fantastic in beautifully detailed shiny suits of armour. And then they started hitting eachother with sticks.

But most of all, who can resist a nice tribute to John Boorman's "Excalibur"?
